Sunset By the Sea

Strolling along Marine Drive in the evening, I experience a certain inexplicable calmness. All the anxiety from mundane activities leaves me as I absorb the atmosphere. The birds flying in the sky make my soul soar high, and the gentle sea breeze washes away the accumulated fatigue. The turbulence of the vast sea surpasses my own. It overwhelms me, a tiny speck in the unfathomable universe. As the waves break against the rocks with a rush, there is a certain inevitability that it reminds me of, of life, and death. The wooden boats dangling on the waves, tethered to a weak looking anchor personifies the fragility of my own life. The ebb and flow of water makes me look in retrospect. The hazy hues of city’s evening sky, seep into me, a finite being bound to the infinite by the cycle of energy. The setting sun, a large orb of fiery red, invigorates and empowers me. I want to stretch my hand and touch it . As I turn my gaze to the numerous faces sitting on the edge enjoying themselves, their apparent happiness infects me, brings a smile to my face. The little girl runs freely on the ledge with her mother behind her, the college girls giggle stupidly while clicking snaps. People here have left behind all their worries for a feeling of pure delight.  Here they don’t differentiate and discriminate; they all stand in unison to behold a magnificent sight of nature, to revel in it. For man can never stop marveling at such a sight, no matter how many times he watches it. I feel blessed, by the gods of nature. I sit down lost in a reverie, just staring beyond the horizon. As the evening changes to dusk and then night, numerous lights come on dazzling me and bringing me back to my senses. With a sigh, I leave my perch and make myself one with the sea of people, back to my sinusoidal life.
