Food for Love, or Love for Food?
Good food
is like love.
Each item you
prepare has your personal touch. You need to have patience and ingenuity. You
may try and fail sometimes. But a burn or two should not deter your love for it.
Preparing a
dish is like being in a relationship. Different spices, ratios, duration of
cooking and a whole lot of other unknowns. Sometimes you know how it will turn
out. At other times you are clueless. You discover it as it unfolds. You
experiment as you go along, and each tryst leaves you richer in experience.
Yet, the
preparation need not be complicated. The simplest recipes are the best. Just make
it with a lot of love, and serve it with a smile. And don’t forget to add salt!
The
tastiest dish is created with your heart and soul. You devote yourself to it,
and what comes out is sacred, or divine. That is why what our moms make for us
is always delicious. It oozes care and affection.
They say
beauty is skin deep. Same goes for food. Don’t judge a dish by its colour! Although
the smell does give it away.
Food
creates bonds. A shared tiffin, an ice cream bite, or a sip of cold coffee from
the same straw, draws you together. You don’t need talent or experience to
enjoy and share love. You just do it instinctively. Pardon me, was I talking
about food? I get confused sometimes.
The more
you share with others, the better it tastes. The joy of preparing for others,
and feeling their appreciation, gives you a different high.
Homemade food
is like love. You share it intimately with people who matter most. I believe
the reverse also holds true. They say in our country that the way to a man’s
heart lies somewhere within the alimentary canal. I wonder how women feel about
it. I think the river flows downhill on the other side too.
What you
like to eat is a window into your heart. Sweet or salty, hot or sour, it defines
you.
For every
good cook, there is a food connoisseur somewhere. They are like lovers in arms,
each living for the other. Food lovers like enjoying life to the fullest; they
look forward to each dish as if it could be their last. It doesn’t matter
whether you are non-vegetarian or a vegan, as long as a hearty meal and a
lovely dessert makes your day worthwhile. A nice hot cup of coffee or tea ends
it all.
So a foodie,
a cook, or a lover, or all of the above, just be true to you!
